James Uthmeier continues to prove that he’s one of the most pro-gun Attorneys General in America.
And now he’s stepping up again.
Florida Attorney General Uthmeier joined an amicus “friend of the court” brief to the U.S. Supreme Court challenging so-called “Assault Weapons” Bans in Viramontes v. Cook County and Grant v. Higgins.
That’s a major victory in defense of the Second Amendment, and Florida Gun Rights thanks every gun owner who took action to encourage Uthmeier to make this a priority.
Earlier this summer, Florida Gun Rights mobilized supporters to contact Attorney General Uthmeier and encourage him to file a pro-gun amicus brief in both cases.
Why These Cases Matter
These are not narrow disputes over gun laws in other states.
These cases could establish the constitutional standard for whether the government can ban entire categories of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms, making this one of the most important Second Amendment fights in a generation.
It’s a fight that gun owners in every state will face the next time anti-gun Democrats capture complete control of the federal government — or after a politicized tragedy.
The U.S. Supreme Court still has to rule on these critical Second Amendment cases with arguments beginning in December.
But with the stakes this high, Florida needed to be part of this monumental case.
Thanks to Attorney General Uthmeier, it is.
And thanks to Florida gun rights activists who spoke up, the attorney general and the Supreme Court know what a priority it is for Florida gun owners.
